Level 1 Salsa Partnerwork for Beginners
Service Description
This is a Drop-in course for new students who want to learn the fundamentals of Salsa Partnerwork. This class focuses on building a strong lead-and-follow connection with another salsa dancer. Utilizing the basics we learned in our Footwork classes, we will teach and drill the basic steps, timing concepts, connection concepts, basic turns, cross-body leads, and basic shines with a partner. We will offer a free 15-minute practice after each partner work class, so plan to stay a little longer if you can. We also plan to offer our students a once-a-month social or practica, so make sure you're on our email list. We will have time to learn, practice, ask questions, and, most importantly, have fun! Prerequisite: We require taking at least one footwork class before our partnerwork class. We recommend up to 10 classes for a strong partner work foundation. Partners: You do not need to bring a partner. We will partner up during class and rotate partners often. Shoes: The key to proper shoes is finding a pair that will pivot on a tile surface, have flat bottoms to medium heels, and have ankle support. If you do not have shoes that will pivot over tile, purchasing a pair of socks for dancing that slide over the ball of your sneakers will do the trick. The instructor has a few to lend out. Creating a safe space To create a safe space, please refrain from giving feedback to another student on the dance floor. The instructor is happy to answer any of your questions. We support the idea that dance roles (lead and follow) do not need to be tied to gender. We will strive to use de-gendered language when referring to roles in class and encourage all students to do the same. Our top priority is creating a welcoming environment, keeping everyone safe and comfortable, having fun, and, over time, building community.
